The Fourth album was all about Se Me Va A Oxidar and only about Se Me Va A Oxidar. The workings of how to make a hit went into high gear, and the original version of that song was remixed over and over again. Besides being translated into English as “It’s Going to Get Rusty – Waste Away,” a Techno version was produced for radio, a Pop for MTV Latino and a Club version for clubs across the country.
MTV Latino
Then there was MTV Latino that needed its video, and so off we went to Mexico City, Mexico, to record and produce the video for the song that would indeed make it into the top ten nationwide. Final returns, the piece had made it to number nine on Latin charts throughout the country and broke the top five in cities such as Boston, Houston, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
No, No, No, No.
The success of Se Me Va A Oxidar was quite amusing to me. It had been written in a fun-loving, coquettish, yet innocent way. The simple No, No, No, No in the song at the beginning of each chorus provided a hook that no one could resist and anyone that heard the song was going around with a silly grin while saying No, No, No, No. The fun lies in the “No” being a come-on and a definite “Yes.”
Of all the versions made of that song, it’s the original, with its playfulness, that I most love. The other versions, of course, just got sexier and sexier. But hey, that’s the game, and I was playing it!
