A Knack for the Hook

My third album, Beverly in Red, was a demo and we brought in a rap singer, Mangú, for its production. Mangú and his posse were having great success in France at the time, and their addition brought in the much needed current rap sounds. The new compositions were compiled on this album and sent to the industry to show my versatility and capability to produce whatever the demand. I was capable of producing several genres.

I could do it quickly, and I had the gift of easily finding a hook. The hook is that catchy phrase in a song that grabs you and makes you hum it all day without knowing where it came from. The knack of identifying a hook, more than anything, interested the industry and held their attention.

A Demo that Worked

The demo of Beverly in Red was about capturing their eye and attention and stimulating them to see and believe in the potential. It worked. From this album, seriousness developed, and steps went into action to take “Se Me Va A Oxidar” and make it a hit.
