Plein-Aire
Plein-Aire painting is all about being in the outdoors and quickly catching on a canvas what you see. It must be done quickly, because light moves quickly. Think of it this way; if you stared at a shadow, you would see how in a short while it has grown shorter or longer. That is what is happening all around us at every moment and in every spot. To capture what is before us must be done in a few minutes, because too soon, moving light will change it.
The paintings below are samples of studies done outdoors, in under thirty minutes. Click on the images to view them larger.
