I don’t care what your age is, believe me it is not in the body, it is in the mind.
Recently this concept was thoroughly proven as I was volunteered to head into Yellowstone Park on a horse. Me! I had not been on a horse for way too many years and I knew that everything was going to be banged up by the time the trip was over.
The itinerary called for several seven-hour days of riding. Yes, you got it right; seven hours! The riding would consist of a large horse with its four long legs teetering as if a ballerina on the edge of a one foot ledge. I’m afraid of heights! (Acrophobia or Altophobia.) There were rivers ahead that had to be crossed, fast moving water with slippery mossy boulders and stones. We would sleep in the middle of a meadow where bison, grizzlies and wolf roam, all of them looking for me! Your mind knows that all of this could be coming and yet that is when we shut it off and send our mind to sleep. We have to shut out logic and ride on. If not we miss out on the three letter word, FUN.
I did it! It all happened; all the scenarios were there but larger than life in my imagination. Reality was, yes, I was sore, no denying that, but wild life was not hunting me down. The sure footed horse by the name of “Friendly” was more reliable than most (without defining species.)
