About Beverly
I was born in Sacramento, California and at the age of five knew that I was going to be a doctor. It became a mission that took me three decades and found its culmination in Caracas, Venezuela. The heart of this quest had sprung from a motherless childhood and the dreams of my father. The road had not been bumpy, at best it had been tempestuous.
The beautiful country of Venezuela was where I resided for eighteen years after marrying. We had four children during those years and then it was time to return to the United States. Upon returning home, I found that I had lost the desire to re-validate my studies and prepare for medical boards. Medicine was wonderful, but I had outgrown the necessity of it and resented its possessiveness. Instead I reveled in motherhood, enjoying my children and swiftly moved into the arts where a part of my heart had always belonged.
The man I married was the right man for me and though we should never say never, I will say that there could have never been another. He is strong, supportive and kind, not to mention a manly man! Yes! Just my type! I loved him when I married him and I love him today.
I have loved motherhood also, not the being pregnant part, but the miracle of meeting each of my children and then getting to know them as years passed. Raising them has been my greatest joy in life and I consider my children God’s greatest gift to me. Of the four children I’ve had, two boys and two girls, one, my third child, is a special guy with Down Syndrome. Of course, each of my children has taught me countless things about life, but no one has ever taught me more than my son Tommy. Tommy is truly special, in so many special ways. He has motivated me to get on a school board and become “the protector” of special education. The founding of an Association for Down Syndrome in Caracas was another initiative spurred on by my son. It has been twenty-five years of listening to his wordless language, that is so filled with meaning and silently capable of making us all better human beings. My entire family has benefited by Tommy’s existence, and Tommy, we know, has benefited by ours.
If we break life down into days and into hours, we have quite a few on our hands. These I have tried to devote to worthwhile endeavors. I have always had busy hands; it’s hard for me to keep them quiet. Because of this I have delved into all the things on this website and have been somewhat productive and very active. Medicine, Singing, Painting, Writing are all things that keep me busy but never take me away from those I love. Those that matter most know it, and smile at me saying that I have kept it interesting.
That is the important detail. Keeping it interesting! If you can do that, most assuredly you’ll live a happy life with happy people around you.
